Mike’s Waterbox 35.2 AIO

What’s up guys? Spoke to a few of you at the Flemington frag swap a few weeks ago, so figure I’d pay my dues and see what the club is all about!

I’m a long time freshwater guy (and actively involved with the North Jersey Aquarium Society). I love local fish clubs and am excited to watch this one grow. I’ve dabbled with saltwater a few times in the past, but never stuck with it for one reason or another. This tank will hopefully change that.

As far as reefing ethos, my r2r build thread’s caption “all killer, no filler” pretty much sums it up. I think we have a habit of complicating things. With that in mind, I run a pretty bare bones system. The tank is lit by a gen 6 Radion XR15 Blue, ATO by Tunze, and flow by Jebao. I don’t run a skimmer, mechanical, or chemical filtration. As of late, I’ve been dosing AFR by hand to keep alk stable. I don’t test for anything else. The tank is almost 6 months old and, tbh, it’s been nothing but flowers and sunshine so far.

I’ll post some older pics to set the scene and catch up to present day in the next few posts.

The scape itself is actually some real deal Tonga branch rock I had bought a few years ago. I always loved the aesthetic and watched its availability fade away. When a big pile popped up for sale, I couldn’t resist, knowing one day I’d be here. I supplemented the Tonga with some established rock from Reefco, as well as some fresh Indo LR from Absolutely fish. After a few weeks, I broke up with live rock and just filled one of the back compartments with it.

Here’s kinda where we’re at, as of a few weeks ago. I’ve always loved torches, so it was only right that they take center stage. Whether it was good timing, or plain old good luck, I was able to get my hands on some super nice ones. From left to right, FCA Avalanche HG, Reefco blue tip, FCA 24k HG, and the star of the show, a Mancini CC24k.

Very nice corals, we also have a borb and a yasha goby in our tank, always been some of our favorite fish.

I was impatient when I went to reefco. They HAD a yasha but had sold it so I went for a watchman instead

Haha I know all about that! If it makes you feel any better, I was hot for a Dracula goby. I waited a few weeks for one to turn up before getting the yasha. Literally the next day, NY Aquatic posted dozens of Draculas smh.
