Thanks Mike, I need to see one in person. The wife is allowing me to go ahead with a new, smaller tank but keeping a tight leash on my wallet. Not gonna let me keep buying bulbs till I find one I like.
I'm looking for a bulb recomendation. I will be running a single 400w bulb in a full size lumenarc on an M59 ballast (I have 2 brand new M59's sitting around). What I want is a bulb similar in color to a Phoenix 14k 250w DE bulb. I don't want to supplement with T5's or VHO's. Any ideas?
You should be able to find something here that works for you. I was using the R2 setup, worked pretty well.

It's not very clear. I also found this on another forum. It's a Java based calculator, seems much better.

Here is a table for glass thickness. It doesn't mention rimless but I called glasscages to see what they use. They use 3/8" but I think I'm going with 1/2" anyway since the price difference was only about 50 bucks.

Got a price for the 1/2" glass today. It is a total of 360. Glasscages charges 420 for the same size tank and they use 3/8" glass, plus 100 to p/u in White Plains. So, it's 520 + gas and tolls vs. 360 + silicone and a little time. Looks like I'll be ordering some glass soon.
The only question I...
I spoke to the glass supplier we use at work today. He laughed and said the glass pieces I want are going to cost quite a bit. They don't work with 1/2" themselves so they will get me a price pre-cut and polished from their distributor. Also said he won't charge me any more than they charge him...
Anyone ever try to build their own glass tank? I'm thinking of doing a 30x30x24. I see that Glasscages has this size rimless, there's also no bottom frame. Is this held together with just silicone? If so, it should be pretty easy. I can have 1/2" glass cut to size: 30x30 for the base, 24x30 for...
