In our Hobby having a single point of failure is a horrible idea. So I run a couple of apex on my system. I learned right away when I got the apex 2016. I setup that system with Neptune apex return pumps. I also setup some wav pumps in my tank. The apex also controled my kessill lights and my...
If you want to setup a ATO the tunze is the way to go.
The tunze is a stand alone ATO and it works without any problems.
if you want to stay in the Apex bubble. You can setup a water level sensor and set it up with a pmup and you can set it up to work like a ATO . You can use the task manager...
You should never put copper in your main tank.
That’s a really bad idea. Cooper kills everything and it’s also impossible to remove.
Corals/inverts fish die when copper is present.
best practice would be to get a 20 gallon tank and use that as a qt. You can get rid of that tank when you are...
In this hobby I learned you need to be patient.
you have to setup qt tank. If you don’t have space for a qt tank. Then you need
to spend more money for fish and get it from a trusted source, getting a $10 frag
Can be the most expensive decision. I don’t really get new fish. It took me years to...
For me those two numbers are the same. 1326 and 1467. They are both between range and I would understand that for hobby grade equipment and for our need that very close: I like to keep my mag from 1200-1500 anything in between that and I am good.
This is my 2cents . maintaining water is the most important factor in this hobby.
You have to start with zero tds water. You have to setup an easy way of making water changes. The easier this is the more you will do it.
when I 1st started I had a 125 gallon tank. I purchased a RODI buddy from...
it sucks but you have to do it. Return pumps will always die at night or when you are not home. I am glad I also setup my apex to send me alerts. That saved my butt.
I have learned not to trust anything. I have two refractor meter that I can check my salinity. I also use the Hanna checker to confirm my numbers. Calibrate both when I do large water changes. I use the apex salinity as a guide.
I test alk by Hanna checker and I also use the trident. I have...
Last night I got an apex alert that one of my return pump stop running.
Sure enough I have two simplicity 3200 pumps running my system.
One of the return pump failed. When I build the system I wanted to make sure I had some layers of protection.
I have wav makers and heaters in each tank. I...
Why even bother testing mag. In my tanks mag is almost always the same range.
I would focus on alk and make sure that number is good. I have never dosed magnesium. I add magnesium with just water changes. If your alk is within range your magnesium should also be in range. I have a trident that...
My sump is a 100 gallon it’s very strong acrylic.it’s 4ft x24 and it’s 24 tall I want 5ft or 6ft. I am thinking about just getting a custom sump from the same people I got my frag tank from. That way I can get everything I want. My sump is too large to fit in your cabinet
I would calibrate the trident. I would also check with a Hanna.
Use reef crystals instead of io it’s more consistent.
I wouldn’t trust trident.
trust but verify !!
