Observational - relating to the action or process of closely observing or watching something or someone.
Why expose a fish to harsh medications if nothing is wrong with it? This is the main argument behind employing an observational approach to quarantining. You take the "wait & see" approach...
Preface: There has been much controversy over Chemoprophylaxis vs. Observational Quarantine in our hobby. The purpose of this article is to discuss the best practices for implementing both techniques, and to weigh the pros & cons of these two different methods of quarantining saltwater fish...
I wanted to compile a quick reference of the most common aquarium medications we use, and provide dosing guidelines/ranges for each. Below you will find information pertaining to both aquarium brand medications and related generics. Generally speaking, using generics (I buy from here) is...
Same here. Best tank I ever owned had MH (20K Radiums) + VHOs as supplemental lighting. I LOVED the look of that tank, and have never been able to grow corals (and especially clams) like that since. Miss the colors too. LEDs make everything look dull IMO.
I'm not familiar with the Noopsyche, but there is a review here: Noopsyche K7 Pro II - Crimson's Review and Growth Thread
How old are the Kessil and Radions? I personally have had issues with LEDs (growth, bleaching) at around the 3 year mark. I'm constantly trying to dial them in, trying to...
To honor his legacy, I highly recommend every marine aquarist read his signature book cover to cover: The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists by Robert M. Fenner (1998-03-07): Robert M. Fenner: Amazon.com: Books
H2O2 successful against Brook: Brooklynella – Marine Fish Diseases and Treatment
So, a local reefer contacted me because his clownfish have brook. We discussed my research/experimentation regarding H2O2 and he decided he wanted to try it. So he gave all of his fish a 30 min H2O2 bath (as...
Are they using heat packs or cold packs to ship? I know Reef Cleaners is in Florida where temps are a lot warmer right now than NY/NJ area. Which makes it difficult to ship because of the temp difference.
I remember in the 1980s feeling so excited that I was able to keep mushrooms alive that we brought back from Florida. And then I go & read how Lee Chin Eng was doing that back in the 1950s-60s. I know he was criticized for not providing more specific info about his methodology in those...
Back in the 1980s I used to read books/magazines all the time about the marine aquarium hobby. Most of the information was geared towards high powered filtration and keeping everything sterile. Most saltwater tanks were full of dead bleached coral skeletons, coarse sand and a single fluorescent...
These are easier to clean IME: Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Spheres
Or you can just put one of these in the sump: MarinePure High Performance Biofilter Media Block - Marine Depot
I personally don't see much value in doing that because so long as you have both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, the nitrogen cycle is doing its thing. Adding more strains of nitrifying bacteria isn't going to help much in the long-run. It would be better to setup a refugium and/or use miracle...
