Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Ok I am going to follow. I have covid going through my house and I think my turn is about to happen based on the way I am feeling tonight. So I don't know for sure when I would be able to pick up. If it doesn't go by the time I am out of quarantine, I will reach out.
Interested. What can that light support? I have a biocube that was donated to the school but it didn't have a hood. I am looking to use the tank to show symbiosis between a clownfish and anemone.
I think it's mostly a struggle because they don't have a reference. But if i give them the directions then it is not much of an engineering design project. So I think the best way would be to give them one that they need to figure out how to make better.
Madreefer will check out fish traps and...
Yes that's the one I have been trying to lead the kids to come up with but they are having a hard time getting there. I found one made using a take out food container. If anyone has a "first attempt" that is not needed anymore, I can use it as a sample students can work to improve its design.
I have challenged my students to design a "nitrate reduction" system. Otherwise known to us as an algae scrubber. They are struggling a bit. I don't show them DIY videos because I don't want them to just copy from the video. So I thought I would show them failed or inadequate designs that they...
I actually took this idea from a college professor at Pratt who challenged his students to keep aiptasia in their dorm rooms. Hoping to inspire future reef keepers while teaching them science!
Awhile back I posted an interest in aiptasia donations. Probably many of you thought I was nuts. I wanted to share a recent tank setup in our classroom. The goal is to raise anemones to eventually share with students to keep at home in a little mini reef jar. I am so excited to get the tanks...
I was hoping you guys could help me get the word out by sharing this flyer on your social media. In return, I would like to offer a similar class to the children of NJReefers at no charge. I will run the NJReefer class mid June through July. More details to follow. Please shoot me a message so...
Thanks for all the suggestions. Seems like the consensus is hair algae. I will brush the rocks down again trying to be more careful not to let it escape into the water column. When i brushed the rock short once before and tangs and snails didn't help out, I started wondering if it was something...
