    Refractometer calibration

My refractometer has ATC. I was just advised on reefcentral's chemistry forum that calibrating with the pinpoint solution is the best way to go. Because you are calibrating at the same point you want your water at. Makes sense to me.

    Refractometer calibration

Is it best to calibrate with distilled water as the instructions state or to use something like pinpoint calibration fluid? With the distilled water you are calibrating at 0ppt. With the pinpoint solution you are calibrating at 35ppt, wich is the same number I want in my tank. I was just curious...

    Phosphates in your RO water

Layered is what I really meant. You would change the gfo that often? Phosban claims it's good for 3 months as well.

    Phosphates in your RO water

It's ok to mix it with the gfo in the same reactor?

    Phosphates in your RO water

Carlo, What do you use with the gfo to remove silicates? I tested my topoff water last night and was not happy with the phosphate reading. I didn't test for silicates but I'm sure they are there.

    Started my 180 build.

I like them. They are a bit tricky to set but I trust them more than my reefkeeper2.

    Started my 180 build.

Well the tank is 5 months old. I looked back at a few pics, what a difference, especially under the tank. And in the tank as well.

    Timed RODI production.

Thank you. That's more like it. I did a google search for plastic solenoids and everything I found was very expensive.

    Timed RODI production.

Is there a simple way to have my rodi unit come on and run automatically for like 3 hours every few days? I don't want to leave it on constantly because everytime the water drops an eighth of an inch in my topoff conainer it runs for like 10 seconds, I know that's not good.I've been running it...

    Low PH problem

I'm using Seachem kalk, that's all the lfs had that day. I'll check the effluent ph tonight. The fan sounds like a good idea, I'll try that this weekend. As far as the plants go, I don't know. All my wife has to do is look at a plant and it turns brown. Maybe I can use that as an excuse to...

    Low PH problem

I see this is a common problem, low ph that is. I've read all the threads and articles I could find but, I still have a ph of 7.8. It has actually been dropping to 7.65 at night. I recalibrated my reefkeeper and double checked it and it is correct. My calcium is at 350, mag at 1300, dkh at 10...

What are you TDS readings before/after RO/DI?

I get 300 before and zero after. 30 is too high. Is this a new unit?

    Ozone Use?

Carlo, I thought about a cheap skimmer, sounds good. What about the exiting water and air do they really need to be run through carbon?

    Ozone Use?

The skimmer will be a Deltec AP851. I don't want to mess that up. But a good reactor is 375. Just want to know my options.

    Ozone Use?

What is the BEST way to use ozone? Through my skimmer or through an ozone reactor? What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?
