Quick update. It’s been about two weeks since I did the 72 hour blackout and my tank has responded amazingly. On top of blacking out my tank I added chemipure elite and really trimmed back my chaeto in my sump. The diatoms/cyano are almost nonexistent now. My phosphates went from .13 to .07...

I’ve remained a little silent because I didn’t want to speak too soon... After doing a 3 day blackout and added chemipure Elite to my sump things have cleared up nicely. I’m now running rowaphos and chemipure to try and keep my phosphates and silicates low. It’s not perfect but it’s 90%...
All blacked out! I get a lot of natural sunlight in my place so I’m hoping this works. Chemiclean elite is also arriving today, a day early. Thankyou Amazon.

It’s funny you say that... a half hour ago I ordered chemiclean elite. It will be here Wednesday.
So tomorrow 20% water change, lights out for three days and chemiclean elite on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed !!!!
Ive looked at a lot of images online today and I’m pretty sure it’s diatoms. I’ve seen Dino’s before and they are different. The pics of diatoms that I’ve seen are pretty much spot on.
I do weekly water changes to keep my nutrients fresh in my tank at all times and also, to help keep my phosphates / nitrates down. For the first year I didn’t have to dose my tank because I was doing the weekly water changes. Now that my tank is fairly well stocked I’ve had to start dosing to...
So if it’s diatoms, than from what I’ve ready the only thing I haven’t done is a three day blackout with my lights. I do weekly water changes, my ro/di unit cartridges are up to par and my skimmer works just fine. I’m thinking about doing a 20 % water change tomorrow along with a three day...
Dave thanks for commenting as you always seem to do.
My nitrates are about 5 and my phosphates were .11 as of this morning. So what nutrient could be in excess? Like I said earlier, I have a refugium that grows chaeto extremely fast, my skimmer works very well and I do weekly water changes...
My lights are a mixture of white and blue. They look much whiter in person. I’ve never had any luck with capturing good photos of my tank with my iPhone.
So I’ve been having a bout with cyano or diatoms lately. I’m not sure what it is. It mainly grows on my sand bed, dry rock or magnetic shelves. What’s strange is that It doesn’t grow on my actual live rock. The dry rock has been in my tank for atleast a few months and has colored up nicely. I...
Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I’m going to try peppermint shrimp first and if that doesn’t work than I will try a copperband. There is no way that I can reach every single piece of aiptasia in my tank. I’ve tried killing them by hand fir the last few months and have grown tired of it.
So I’ve been battling aiptasia for a few months now and I’ve been using aiptasia x once a week to try and kill them and am losing the battle. I’ve done a lot of reading the past week and it sounds like filefish, peppermint shrimp and berghia nudibranch all work well With some pros and cons...
I remember you told me that when I was at your place a couple months ago. I’ve been pretty good about keeping things within a few tenths of a point with my alk and my calcium I can keep it within 20 points or so. I know a doser will help but I’m not sure I have the space for that underneath...
Well my tank has reached the point to where weekly water changes no longer provide the correct amount of nutrients. I’ve started manually dosing calcium and alkalinity once a day. My alk has been around 7.2 - p7.4 and calcium around 400. My goal is to slowly bring them to 8.0 and 420. Every...
