When I hard plumb my 54 I did not cemment any pipes that were in the overflow. I did cemment the pipe in the stand (so the lead to the sump/left the sump)

Again never used one but I'm sure there could be issues with getting 100ft. Object like walls can affect range. Also if your wireless router is using the Freg that the reef link is using or even a cordless phone and/or microwave can affect it (again if they run on the same band)

well i would assume if they can connect they should about to be controlled but maybe not

That is one way but there are other ways to do fishless cycle. You can do raw shrimp, raw salmon, other raw fish. You can also ghost feed, dumb ammonia in, etc.....
