yeah the key is volume - he had 20 topless traps - lay them down, pull 1 thru 20, then circle back to the first one and repeat. All i did was show up with the family. capt don supplied boat, equipment, bait etc. I highly recommend him.
Hey - was down in OCNJ and chartered a boat to go crabbing via fun time crabbing.
the family had a fantastic time. 3 hours we pulled in about a bushel plus. The basket we used probably holds 2 bushels.

you could use the amtrak auto train. You'd have to drive from Nj to Washington DC, then board the train with the car and go via train. you could book a sleeper car to sleep in, or just ride in a regular seat.

topless traps are also very popular since you can stack 15 of them together and it only takes up 4 feet of space/1 square foot wide.

Land based crabbing is hit or miss, so hitting 45 and keeping 9 aint bad. The only time i've done well on land was in the Chesapeake near the Assateague state park. it was early morning where you could see the trap (less than 2 feet) and by the time tide came in, the crabbing was much better...
