The only reason I'm tempted to glue is my urchin tends to pick up what it can. But it has left these ric's alone so far so more than likely I'll wait it out. They've been in a while without being piked up
These rics are amazing. I didn’t glue either, figured I’d lay them out by the rock base and let them attach themselves. Now I figure I’ll glue the higher one and move the others nearby and see what happens. They are amazing.
David, last I saw there was another group forming for this buy...
i had read ricordea do best in lower light, so I placed the rainbows I got from the group buy (and one from the January meeting) on the sandbed by rock. One kept moving so I placed it higher on a rock and the colors that have come out are amazing. Check out the blues on the one that’s placed...
I use rock rubble in my fuge. More surface area for beneficial bacteria, and more grazing space for pods. Also have macroalgae in there. I vote no to sand.
Awesome. The mccoskers is a beautiful fish. This reminds me that I included one in my original stocking plan before impulsivity took over! Great choice!
That’s what the forum’s all about! And that’s why I like coming here myself. I definitely had a different outcome than other folks, so I may have done it wrong or just more evidence that each system does their own thing. Sharing my experience hoping maybe it’ll help and maybe someone who...
Yeah, I never understood the outbreak either but the timing lined up, and I had not added anything new at that point for a few months. It may have been an after-affect of the die-off since I had a lot of snails that bury in the sand, plus I lost some large snails too. I tried to remove the...
I spot treated and then dosed hydrogen peroxide (less than recommended amount every other day, for 7-10 days) a while back and had a bad experience. Snails died over the course of a few weeks and my chaeto suffered, then I had a strange bacterial outbreak on my rock. Resembled Dino’s but...
Any other coral you’ve moved lately? Oddly my toadstool used to stay closed most of the time, opening briefly every couple of days only. One day I moved a Kenya tree that was on an adjacent rock but close in the water column and that changed. I hadn’t heard of Kenya tree putting out chemicals...
Andrew’s a really good guy, knows his stuff, and is generous with his time. The guy just likes talking the hobby. If it was closer I’d go more often, but as is, it’s still on my short list for fish and inverts. Knowledgeable staff, quality livestock, and for the most part great prices. When...
That 10 gallon is great. I know my family would like it better than my mixed reef if I set one up. Definitely on my to-do list....going to follow this to see when you solve the problem. Though plenty of folks would love to learn how to kill Xenia lol
We’re down in Florida for the holiday weekend and came across a very cool place I thought I’d share-the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. A highlight of the place is a sea turtle rehab facility for injured/sick turtles that are found along the Florida shore. Florida Atlantic University...
If they’re building up near my corals I crack them and let my wrasse do the rest. For the most part they don’t bother me though.
Nightmarepl, Are you using dry rock in the new tank? I started with dry pukani and though that definitely limited the unwanted hitchhikers I still had several...
I’ve taken to a freshwater dip after the traditional dip (I use The Dip that was given away at Reefapalooza a couple years ago). Curious what people think of the FW dip? I do 3-5 minutes in the dip then a basin of tank water, then 1-2 minutes max in FW (RODI)
