Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I've run:
A biopellet reactor, carbon, gfo, matrix.....you name it in my AIO tank. As it "matures", you'll find that less stuff will be needed.
Right now, I'm only running a fuge and and a skimmer in mines.
I think it's a matter of necessity. For a new cycling tank....nothing, just some sponge/floss to catch the junk that'll be floating around.
Later on when some fish are added, you could go with carbon just to keep the water clear. That with a skimmer should hold you down for a while.
I never hear of a six line attacking inverts, other fish yes but snails and urchins no. Maybe some folks have had other experiences with them but mines never did.
I'm a big urchin fan but without a stable algae food source , it'll eat your coraline. So if your attached to it, then I'd say no on...
