I really liked the Red Sea Pro kit for Ca, Mg and Alk. The Algae Control test kit for NO3 and PO4 on the other hand, was less than acceptable. Ultimately I would recommend getting a Hanna checker for PO4. The NO3 kit would work, but there seemed to be a large amount of particulate matter in the...
Does the refractometer have an auto temp correction, aka ATC? If so, let it sit for about 30 seconds before taking the reading. Although, considering these are hobby grade test equipment, and there is a certain margin of error, I think either reading is close enough for our purposes. Probes, and...
Either should work fine if properly calibrated.
Just use your make up water @ 1.026 for your top off until you get your DT where you want it, and then go back to plain RO/DI.
I used to use four old vingar gallon jugs for this purpose, two in use and two in waiting, and when I needed to refill them I just switched them out. I did, however have an issue with the sediment building up in my 5 gal. ATO bucket, and was working on a CO2 scrubber "breather" for the lid...

I had a similar problem with the Jager heaters being too long for my sump, and went with the Hydor THEO's. I was able to go to a 400W heater, and save ~ 4" in length. I did, however replace them every couple years, and move them to my WC station where they took a beating, and never broke. I used...
There's been a lot of posts on RC regarding the Hanna Ca checker being problematic, and for that reason, I never used one. It might be prudent to get a second opinion on the Ca with a different test kit. However, I did use the Hanna Alk meter and was happy with its performance.
Any 10" replacement cartridge will work, so typically BRS, Buckeye Hydro, Spectapure, AWI, etc. What is your raw water is like, i.e. well water, city using chlorine or chloramine?
I would also suggest you go through the sterilization process here:
