    Question about coral QT

Great info as usual. I never considered removing the frag from the plug. I guess it would be mainly applicable to stony coral? What are some of the techniques for removing coral from plugs without causing to much damage?

    Biopellet reactor.

Thanks. Very good info. Now that I’m skimming more efficiently, I’ll try to cut back on the gfo. phosphates weren’t an issue before the BioPellets. They shouldn’t have become one because of it.

    Biopellet reactor.

Just by personal experience. My nitrates when’d way down. My phosphates actually went up a little. I believe the ratio theoretically, is 16 No3 to 1 Po4. Now that I have mine set up right with the skimmer, perhaps I’ll get a bit more benefit on the phosphates. Perhaps it was user error.

    Question about coral QT

I don’t. If you have the time space and money for a second reef tank, it is the best practice bar none. Unfortunately not practical for most. It wouldn’t be something you can just through together with the stuff you have laying around in the attic, like a fish quarantine. I have the utmost...

Oh goodness! My skimming has picked up already.

    Biopellet reactor.

Find the part that is sucking water into the skimmer. Aim the outlet of the water from the reactor towards it. Just add pellets super slow. You will have to do something else for Po4. The BioPellets don’t help, might even make them go up a little. I use another reactor with gfo.

    Biopellet reactor.

I have been using my bio pellet reactor incorrectly. I had accidentally plumbed it to the outlet, instead of the inlet the skimmer. It worked super well for nitrate, but my pumps kept slowing down. The biofilm from the bacteria constantly fowled the pumps and power heads. I just realized my...

    Toadstool coral not opening

The toady is opening up daily. I still haven’t quite gotten the polyp extension it once did, but its getting there. It has grown back quite a bit of the size it lost. It’s still down on the bottom. it’s a good spot for it where it has room to grow without shading other coral.

    Dynoflagellates

I used it for the max amount of doses. I think 20. I didn’t do a black out, due to the concern that my coral was not in good enough condition to service a prolonged blackout. I now run a gfo, and a Bio pellet reactor. My nitrates are 3. They went down to 0 at one point, but I removed some...

    Dynoflagellates

Just as I suspected. I stopped dosing calcium for 2 weeks, and my cal is @ 450. The water was over saturated with Ca. The calcium I was adding was precipitating out of solution. I’m not going to test elements, at dose anything, until I get significant growth. All I am successful at doing so far...

plastic mesh for Lid on biocube

I left the rim. Cut the screen window frame to fit in the inner flange. I left cut it a little short on the ends to make room for the light mounts. Hack saw & screen window kit required. Easy project.
