No the tank is not new. It has been running since October. I made a bonehead mistake and put an old filter in my sump, that wasn't fully clean and my ammonia spiked from this. Since than I have removed the filter and my ammonia is dropping. Thanks for the info.

No change in the lighting in the last 4 months and the temp. is 77. My temp has bounced around a bit, anywhere from 81 - 75 degrees. I have been experimenting with my fans now that summer is on the way. I now have the correct amount of wind from the fan to keep the tank around 77-79.
I have looked at the thread that describes the different sickness that zoas can get and mine do not match any of them.
For about a week and a half now my zoas are spewing a brown discharge out of there mouths and are very unhappy. Some of them are shut and some of them are open. It differs each...
When I feed the five fish that I have a give them a cube of mysis shrimp a day and twice a week I feed my coral a small slice of cyclopeze and a cube of mysis shrimp. My tank top is not open and we don not use air freshener in the house. I will try a new test kit.
My ammonia has been quietly creeping up recently and I don't know why. A month ago when I did my biweekly 15 gallon water change for my 58 gallon tank, my ammonia was reading .25 Than yesterday I did another water change and the ammonia is now reading .50 What can be causing this? I do not...
Chad, thanks for the info. I actually read my TDS incorrectly. I forgot to calibrate it before I did the test. It now reads 4 which means it maybe time to change my filters soon.
I just bought my first TDS meter and I checked out the levels on my RO water. It gave me a reading of 22. Is that good? What are the paremeters we would like the levels to fall between?

I have posted a couple of times that I am putting alot of Kent superbuffer in my tank everyday to keep my alkalinity between 9 - 12 (between 4 - 6 tsp per day). I have switched salt brands and am now using Reef Crystals and still have the same problem. I have looked at the Reef Central board...
Thanks for the comments. Today I closed the air valve for about three hours and than opened it back up. Since than it has cleared up and seems to be working well. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only person with this problem. I was getting ready the throw my skimmer out the window. The thing...
Once again my very sensitive Tunze 9010 protein skimmer is not skimming properly.
On Sunday I added four new coral fargs to my tank: 2 different zoas, a blue tort and a five head acan frag. To secure three of the coral pieces I used the putty made by "two little fishies". Since than my skimmer...
After spot feeding it on Wednesday night the brain is looking much healthier. Thanks for the advice and I will continue to spot feed him twice a week.

I have a 58 gallon tank with a T5 tek light that puts out 234 watts. The lobo brain is on the sand bed and was very happy there. I do not turn off my protein skimmer and return pump when I feed them cyclopeze / DT's. I usually feed them extra to avoid having to do this. Tonight I spot fed him...
About a month ago I bought an aussie lobo brain from The Hidden Reef. The specimen was a beauty and in great health. For about the first two weeks it swelled up great and was all that I had hoped for. Since than it has not swelled up as big, the color is beginning to fade, the tissue is...
What you have is black ich. My tang had it about a month ago and it can come and go if they get stressed out. What I did was I bought a garlic clove and put about 3 pieces of it in my sump and this fixed the problem. I switched the garlic out every couple of days but, for one week I always had...
My 58 gallon oceanic with 20 gallon sump is now 5 months old and is doing well. My only concern is the amount of calcium and alkalinity I add each day to keep the levels in line.
Every two weeks I do a 20% water change using reef crystals salt. When the water change is complete I add 7 tsp of...
Calaxa, would you consider a small mout once every other day excessive. I hate cyano/algea blooms and just got my last one under control. I don't want it to reappear.
