I am looking for advice on a skimmer for the system. I figure the total system volume will be around 150 gallons. I was looking at a Super Reef Octopus 2000IN, but I am up for input any recommendations and or experiences with skimmers for a system this size.
I wish I had room to plumb a sump / frag tank elswhere to a fish room type setup, but I am limited on space. That will be a project when I move to a bigger house, which will mean a bigger tank.
I totally agree, I do not plan to cut corners with equipment, I have learned that lesson the hard way.
Plumbing the tank is where I have the most questions / reservations.
I am back from my deployment and I am finally getting the tank build started! I learned a ton from all the mistakes I made on my 54G Corner and I have done a year of research and planning. I am putting the tank in my basement and I plan on getting the entire build done by the end of August...
mnat, thanks for the input. I am excited to get this thing going. I hate not having a tank and I have had over six months to plan.
I am building the entire system in the basement, my house does not have room anywhere else.
I ran a Reef keeper lite on my old system. Not sure if I will...
I am in the planning stages for my re-entry into the hobby. I had to break down my 54G corner last summer. I want to upgrade to a 120 Gallon. I view the upcoming build as a blank canvass.
I wanted to incorporate some of the following elements into the system:
-Above tank refugium (not...
Update on the reef:
1. I was careless with feeding my fish an coal causing a nutrient spike. Went through a diatoms, cyano and finally HA outbreaks in that order. On the down slope of the HA outbreak, it is going to take time, but I think I have the upper hand.
2. To improve...
I do not want to starve the fish in my system. I think three fishes is not a tremendous bioload for the tank. I run a SWC 160 and it produces a decent amount of skimmate.
I have an RO/DI system.
Tank is almost a year old.
I feed the tank once a day.
Bioload
2x Clown fish
1x Pseudochromis
1x Cleaner Shrimp
1x Blood Shrimp
