Yeah I’ve seen the tool. I’ve always used my finger (tip-dip your finger in dish soap before spreading it and the silicone won’t stick to your finger) or used a sponge to smooth it out.

+2 on waiting on CUC and chaeto. I got my diatom bloom after week 3 of cycling and added a small CUC. The snails and hermit crabs did a great job of clearing out the diatoms in 3-4 days along with a 10% water change.
