    Orp

It's hard to say exactly what the value is. I like it and use it. One example of the weirdness of ORP is, for example, when you do a big water change the ORP will go down and that's not a bad thing. Just means the oxidation potential is lower. Important to understand what you are seeing.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Started construction on the new backend setup. It's a new bench that will go over my 100G Rubbermaid horse trough. It's going to be tricky, I have to move my water barrel tower a few inches. It need to be open in the front so the trough can slide in and out but also have shelves for the skimmer...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Chocolate cake. Or cuke rather. Nerves are still not back to normal after Sandy, during which I drunk an average of 50 cups of coffee a day to compensate for my untreated sleep apnea and all the martinis. I really need to take a picture of my tank today -- it looks bare but incredibly clean...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Back in business. No fish died, the ones that were left were too tough to snuff. I didn't even feed them for the first week, since there was no skimming. Lost a couple sea urchins. And found out I still have a cake, he cme out of hiding and climbed the glass. NO ALGAE of any kind survived the...

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Power back on after 12 days. Tank was n generator the whole time with no lights. Fish losses zero, one sickly coral head bought it. All others great! No algae of any kind survived, not even bubble algae! Getting ready to restart the main pump, after the water in the sump reaches a decent...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

The funny thing is, the generator isn't the be all and end all...I'm not running my skimmer or lights on the big tank. I think everything's gonna take an ***-kicking.

Still no power on my street in Rockaway. Monday night until Saturday so far. Glad I changed the oil on the generator. Getting some cabin fever at this point.

How's everyone making out (roll call)

On generator since Tuesday. Reef was in poor shape to begin with, so not too far to fall. Fox face still alive, chromis are mia, corals all look okay. Have been runni g without lights due to generator restriction. Everything in the nano is fine, pistol shrimp and gobies are tough. Human beings...

    Attention generator owners!!

Changed the oil on mine today...it was pretty nasty....but easier to do than I thought it would be, the drain plug was right on the front.

    Attention generator owners!!

You probably don't have a hammer like this...it's a ball peen hammer with a head about 2" long. I've never used it for anything--this was it's moment to shine!

    Attention generator owners!!

NOW is the time to test your equipment -- not when the power goes out! I just fired up my generator and gas sprayed everywhere! It would have been a very bad thing to see at 2AM in the dark. After some messing around I figured out it was a stuck carburetor float. Thankfully it was cured by a few...

Anyone have any aquascaping tips or tricks to share?

One thing I just learned is that when you look in the tank without water, remember that everything you've aquascaped will look a lot closer when water is added. So, say you want an open area in the front and it looks good with the rocks 4" back, to keep that look with water the distance needs to...
