    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Stupid Solitaryensis just gave up the ghost. I have had NO luck with maricultured corals. The two WILD coral heads are doing great, the Monticulosa has grown so it looks different from when I bought it.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I had good luck over my ten-day vacation in California. The system chugged along pretty well the whole time, with one exception. Before I left I took out the filter sock I've been running. It sometimes gets clogged up and then water comes out of the top. I need to grit my teeth and redesign the...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I've been having a different problem with my MP60 Vortech. The darn thing won't stay on the side of the tank. This is after years of NOT sliding off the tank. It slides down, it moves, it pulls the adhesive hangers off the tank. I used up a dozen of those little adhesive hangers people use...

Thanks, I'll see if I can get him.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Kind of bummed about this: My juvi emperor angel seems to have developed HLLE. I haven't ever seen that happen in a reef tank, in fact I haven't had a case of it since my old F/O tanks back in the 20th century. I don't think there's anything to be done except euthanasia, he's losing patches of...

EcoTech doesn't usually piss me off, but now they have. I have an MP60 vortech I like very much, but it's starting to wear out and make noise. They do not sell individual parts for the MP60. If you need a new shaft, and you need a new propeller because the old one got chewed up, you need to buy...

It's not the valves Bax. I even tested that. When the injector clogs, there is no air going in at all. The water level rises in the injector housing and starts to come out the valve. I think the key is to keep small particulates OUT of the injectors. Maybe the recirc pump is wearing out or...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I use the old-school kind of auto-shutoff waste collector. The problem is that if it really gets going, it still leaks a little. That looks like a good gizmo but not for $169. Plus I sometimes make a couple gallons of skimmate, that thing's tiny!

Still having problems with water blowing out of the Becketts. All that needs to happen is to have the level up high in the skimmer for wet skimming and one injector gets good and clogged. Had an issue yesterday where I set the skimmer to wet skim and ended up with around 25G of SW on the garage...

I'm surprised more places don't sell Weldon. It's surprisingly useful in our plasticized world. I recently fixed our Brita water pitcher when someone dropped it and the bottom seam cracked.

Everything got dipped with Revive but not QTd. I didn't see anything fall off. Hope I didn't infect my tank!

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I shut down the skimmer and gave it a thorough cleaning, a fair job with a big skimmer. Then I took a bunch of Weldon 16 and liberally applied it to the leaking area, which was the output hole. I let it dry and voila! Now it's not leaking anymore.

Solly color is rapidly improving! I had a couple of portions of blackworms and I stored them in the fridge in a Vlasic pickle jar I had washed out. I opened the jar and got hit with a blast of garlic, though the worms were fine. I fed some to the fish and they went crazy for them. I think I...

Made run down to club sponsor Dr. Jim's Reef Corner at Amwell Bird Hospital. There is an ambulance across the street, but I was disappointed to learn it belongs to the Hillsborough rescue squad, rather than the Bird Hospital. Dr. Jim is a friendly guy and has a really choice selection of frags...

The Milli is looking very pink in my tank, but honestly it doesn't look as good as the photo. No photoshop, just shooting with my Canon, RAW format...Those are also the topdown view, everybody does it, but I bet it's hard for you to get your head inside the canopy you have. And head-on is not...

BTW, my copperband figured out about aiptasia, so those are all gone. My LFS got an adult regal angel, which will be MINE when it starts eating...much cheaper than LADD! Brought my carbon reactor back online. I used the bituminous carbon we got in the club for so long, I had more than 5Lbs...

More Coral Pix This thing is just fantastic, I got it from Eric in the club, like a movie star it doesn't look quite this good in person, and this is a top-down view... Pink Lemonade. I had this and it was lost in the crash, I had given a frag to Eric and his colony was going strong, so it's...

Some Coral Pix Here are some pictures of my coral progress: Green Slimer, a great morale booster because I have never seen an acro grow this fast! This is the purple nana (I think, maybe Plana) that I am re-growing from a quarter-sized patch that survived my tank disaster My Favia...
