Picked up a yellow wrasse yesterday and didn't notice any discoloring at the LFS, but after acclimation saw discoloring and swelling on the left face area. Didn't notice it during the drip process but the lighting wouldn't be sufficient enough to see it. Behaving normally, picking at rocks...
Welcome, John. I was a member of NJAGC as well, made the jump from planted FW to SW this year myself. You've found the right place--I've benefitted from searching this site and asking plenty of questions over the past year. Good luck!
not sure if these are something to be worried about or not, but I noticed a few of these on my live rock over the last week and now I see a ton of them in my hang-on fuge (that's what this picture is from). They're small-a half centimeter at most.
Can anybody ID them?
Are they a potential...
The live sand has the beneficial bacteria without the risk of live rock. Still takes time to cycle the dry rock but at least it gets that started. It's worth considering unless you're set on having some live rock in there
I used dry rock with live sand. Pukani from bulk reef supply is very porous and easily cut. Had fun planning out the scape out of the tank and shaping the rock prior to setup day. Used a cardboard cutout the same size as the tank, put a line two inches in on all sides so I wouldn't have rock...
In that area I loved reef encounter in Hackensack. Knowledgeable, down to earth, and just into the hobby-I learned a ton from them and never felt I was receiving a sales pitch. Much better experiences there than at absolutely fish.
Great time at Ultimate Corals today-Mark is awesome, generous with his time and knowledge, put a lot of thought into matching me up with the right corals for my setup and interests-and that of my kids too (they loved his coming along!). Definitely impressed and excited. Thanks!
Prefer lfs but ordered online once to get something I wasn't able to find locally, and had a good experience with it. Back to the wall I'd consider it again but I'd prefer to buy in person.
I agree, and look forward to some of the hitchhikers I'll have in the future (and recent past). I just wanted a clean start, get to know the tank from ground up, and deal with learning the ins and outs of saltwater maintenance before having to recognize and, if necessary, problem solve the...
That's duct insulation. I didn't like the look of anything else behind-with all that hang-on equipment I can't really clean the back glass, and anything I tried back there made the glass growth look awful. The reflection of this sort of hid that. I've monitored the temp and there wasn't any...
