Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
You will be fine with a heater and powerhead. A HOB is not really necessary for short term treatment, but will help with small particle filtration and surface agitation. Do not run carbon during treatment.
After you start treatment, keep an eye on your water perameters. If you have LR in there...
George, while the biology part was good, the chemistry part is a miss. You might need to double check the source of your Silicates. Silicates usually come from one of two sources in a reef tank, both of which are a key component to this hobby, glass and water. The rocks and sand we should use...
Trop is having a sale on 75 to 300 gallon Deep Blue and Marineland tanks. If you go to their Facebook page, you can find a coupon that has all the prices of the tanks.
I'm guessing you are using an API test kit?
You don't have any fish in your tank yet right? The phosphates are coming from your rocks that where not fully cured before putting them in the tank. After your tank cycles, do a large water change to lower the PO4. Weekly water changes will help...
Don't trust the top trim of the tank it's put on with silicone and might not sit true to the tank. I check the stand and the bottom glass pane of the tank. I use the bottom trim as a quick reference.
I am using a 20L sump on both my tanks, a 40 and 65, so you will be fine with a 20 on your 55. You can check out my 65G build thread HERE and see how I built my sump.
Things are looking better by the day! Starting to see some teal colors coming back to some corals and my strawberry shortcake has developed a purple rim around the base. More importantly, my pink lemonade is getting its yellow color back and my A. Nana now has deep purple tips and is getting its...
I run my sumps bare bottom on both tanks. Just last night I vacuumed out the bottom of one sump. I use 100 micron mesh socks, and while they are easier to clean, they let small stuff pass through. This fine dust settles at the bottom of the sump over time and needs to be removed.
I mentioned...
Well, yesterday I placed an order for a Deep Blue 120G reef ready tank.
I will be closing on a home in November and figured it would be best to have a tank setup and running at the house for a few weeks before I move livestock to minimize loss. It is also a good opportunity to upgrade to a...
My NPX pellets kicked in at about the 3 week mark. My phosphates went from .12 at week 2, down to .03 by the end of week 3.
Edit: That was 200mL in the 40B.
Waaaay too much rubble in there. That is a nitrate problem waiting to happen.
One thing you might consider is to make 4 or so pod condos, and keep them in the sump and run some cheato.
Few things to try.
1) Make sure you include the WWW in www.njreefers.org
2) If it comes up your are logged in already, click the Home tab at the top of the page. You should still see Welcome and your username. If the log in screen appears again, log in and you should then be ok to use the...
I'm not sure if it's the feeding everyday or running the MH's an hour longer each day or both, but I am really starting to see some color coming back in the corals. Especially in my blue/green tort that has been blah and brown for the longest time. I can see the green coming back when the...
