Yesterday I watched a 4" bristle worm get cozy with the glass heater. He wrapped around it like a boa constrictor and seemed comfortable.
Then the heater came on and bristle worms are not really good jumpers so he fried. :o
The arrow crab who loves fried foods walked over and unwrapped the worm...
My 5' algae trough just about fell into the tank. It was so full of hair and other algae's that it filled up with water and became too heavy for the flimsy acrylic angles that I had holding one side of it to the side of the top rim. I remove the entire thing to make new (flimsy) angles. I...
I love it when something new grows in my tank, even if it is something that many people think is a plague. I just find it interesting. This is the stuff that stirs my interest in this lifelong hobby.
This stuff started growing on my rocks a few months ago and at first I thought it was some...
It works in all areas and out east thats how we would do it. Once we hade two bushels of live crabs and we put them in my cousin's basement. It was cool there and there was a sand floor because he didn't pour the concrete yet. There was also no lights. The next day we went down there and the...
TanksNStuff, yes I did enjoy it.
It sounds a lot like my life.
Growing up on Long Island I spent many hours on muddy beaches and sand bars digging for clams. And crabbing either with the chicken leg or the four sided traps was my favorite thing to do, still is. It is such a shame that today kids...
Getting into this hobby was easy for me. My family owned a seafood business and I grew up playing with dead fish so it was natural for me to start a tank. Of course at 2 or 3 years old I needed a little help.
On fridays my Dad would bring me to the Fulton Fish Market in Manhattan which was...
Today I think I will go to a new LFS that opened up near here. I have a choice of about 6 LFSs with in a few miles of my house but most of them always get the same old boreing, common things. How many yellow tangs, angelfish and triggers do we need?
I want to get a male mandarin to date my...
I can't post a decent picture of that because, by design, you can't see those supports. It is hard to see in this (lousy) picture because it is dark under the rockwork but almost all of the main structure is off the bottom.
That is new. Iinstalled it a few months ago when I removed all the rock to re aquascape and do some cleaning. It is PVC pipe for the thick parts and acrylic rod for the circular part. Al of my reef is now supported by these "columns" or whatever you want to call them.
Here are some of the...
I don't know how all of you guys top off your water but being I started this thread I will get into it a little the way I do it.
I guess you figured out that I like to build and modify things. My top off system is totally automatic and I only have to touch it every year or so.
I hung this...
I am running out of un orthodox things to post about but I think just about everything I do is unorthodox and when someone comes to look at my tank, they seem kind of surprised. Everyone notices the bottles. I like old coral encrusted bottles (and chains)
Old rusty chains to me just remind me...
Over the years I think I did a few things that most people think is odd for some reason. To me my tank is supposed to be like a part of a reef or at least a part of the sea so I add whatever I find in the sea that I feel will either enhance the feeling or at least be interesting. We all know...
Weinerdog, last night we sponsored a fund raiser for Multiple Sclerosis and the mayor or my town was there. He was also there at the Veteran's Day Cerimony. I told him about the Korean War Vet and he told me that he is just a crotchety old may with some issues.
He may be but he is still a Vet...
