I have gravel and no fine sand so I stir it like a typhoon a few times a year. The fish and corals seem to love it although I can't see them when I do that. ;D
Today is a beautiful day for collecting. There are no tropical fish yet this time of the year in NY but I go for grass shrimp, worms, snails, seaweed and most of all amphipods. Those things are all over the place, especially on my anchor line. When I pull the anchor, they jump all over the boat...
I re-designed my algae trough this morning. I thought my LED lights would supply enough light to the trough but they were not positioned enough above it so the hair algae in the trough died in a week. I bought a 4' strip of waterproof LEDs and mounted them about 2" above the trough where they...
There are dozens of types of those worms and snails, some of them do become a pest and spread all over everything, the ones I have seem to be loners. I only have a dozen or so and they have been in there for decades without visably multiplying.
I know, stupid title but I didn't know what else to call it.
I just had to move a piece of coral in my tank and by doing so I had to stir up the gravel. (yes I have gravel) When I do that there is a slight dust or detritus storm which I know benefits the corals. As I was looking at the tank I...
All is well but they are definately snails. Looking closely at the rock with a scope, they are all over the place. They are not local mud snails and I did not add any rocks or corals in many months, maybe years. Cool looking little suckers, I just hope they don't grow or I will have to buy a lot...
As I was loking at my tank today I noticed that there was hardly anything moving. Not the fish, the corals. I felt the two powerheads to determine that they were running (they are very old and may croak at any minute)
So I removed the homemade strainers to find them clogged with tiny snails, or...
Here is another review from another forum
i have one of paul b.'s zapper. i have used it on aiptasia, majano and brown polyps. it's only been about a week but i've not seen any of them coming back. i got carried away and accidentally zapped my monti confusa while "boiling" the majano. it does...
Here are three reviews I received from other forums.
just tried the zapper last night. awesome....fun to watch it "boiled" and disintegrated them sob's....both majano and aiptasia. the long tube and angled neck work perfectly in a deep tank.....i could never reach them by any other means. great...
I am glad they are working so well. As you know it is a very new design so I design out any bugs I hear about. You guys use it a lot more than I do because I zapped most of my mojanos so I look for feedback to make improvements.
I really did not want to get into the mojano business because now...
I have been collecting, swimming and SCUBA diving in that water all my life and have yet to be stung by anything.
I am fairly sure I ate there also
Nope, been to Aruba, it's a little to the south of Montauk ::)
