This week my wife and I went to the east end of Long Island, Montauk. We have cousins and friends out there so we go often, it's only about 80 miles from my home.
I usually collect water, seaweeds and amphipipods
when we go.
This little deserted beach in East Hampton is loaded with amphipods...
Exactly, I don't find this hobby expensive at all and I have been in it for over fifty years. I really don't have any idea what many people are buying. I buy some MH lamps every 18 months or so and some salt. I don't change much water so I use enough salt to make 100 gallons of water a year...
I shipped about 30 of these things and so far (thank God) I have not had any complaints. The Post Office lost two of them but thats about it.
If I knew I had to ship so many, I would have hired a spokes model. I wonder if there are any un imployed supermodels that want to work for peanuts. 8)...
Someone on another forum posted that on the model he was building he had to replace the graphite electrode in a few minutes so I did a test. I ran these two electrodes in salt water continousely for one hour. As you can see by the picture, there is no decay on either electrode. The graphite is...
They are actually 12 volts and I am sure they would work on aiptasia. I know they even work on mushrooms.
I showed my daughter yesterday and her, her fieace and my wife were haveing a mojano fest for a while. Now they have a new hobby and love to fry these things.
I love the smell of burning...
Here are a couple of completed Zappers.
I made a bunch for a LFS near my home and he has been selling them.
They work much better than I thought they would work and they disintegrate mojanos in about 5 seconds, there is nothing left.
I love this stuff. 8)
I got the thing back together and bolted to the stand, I got it running and found out why the bottom bracket rusted so bad. There is a slight leak, more like a seepage on one of the lower fittings. It was probably leaking for years. So of course I had to un bolt the thing, dis connect the 7...
The skimmer is repaired and the bracket is re-designed with stainless steel so it should last forever. The skimmer didn't break, I broke it trying to remove a hose that had turned to glass over the years. One of the improvements is that the venturi valve is connected with a union so I can remove...
The thing was due for some maintenance anyway. This was galvanized steel and is the bracket that was under the skimmer and supported it's weight. I am replacing it with stainless steel.
OMG, what am I going to do? I am beside myself.
(a few minutes ago I was two feet to the right) ::)
I was designing a new venturi valve for my home made 5' skimmer which is, I don't really know, maybe 15 years old, and you know how those large vinyl hoses get in that time. Nice and brittle...
I did a test today and turned off my solar panels on my roof. Today is a light electricity day because there is no AC on or heat.
According to my power usage meter (pictured) today I am spending 7 cents an hour for electricity. Not very much.
I turned off the solar array and the price jumped up...
