I have approx 60 pounds (base off bathroom scale) of used rock for sale. I cooked it for a few months but couldn't get the phosphates down to where I liked and didn't want to give it the acid bath. So I went with new. Its great looking stuff otherwise.

In regard to the hoses, they sell metal braided that are much better than rubber. Rubber under constant pressure eventually fail. I have two friends whos houses were severely damages from hoses bursting. I'm surprised insurance companies dont give them away...
I've seen people mention that the phosphate sometimes is being consumed by the algae at just the right amount to keep the numbers low. Tricky...so how do you real know?
My Weber flavor bars wont like it. I wonder how it does chicken with all the dripping that normally drop into the fire? But I'd use it on fish for sure...
my error, I thought you were original poster...my drain is straight up and down, totally submerged deep in overflow with a strainer and tuning done with a gate valve.

I'm finding my socks get nasty after 3-4 days and change them. I think running socks that are real dirty too long can give you a nitrate problem. But I'm a fan of socks... they really help keep water clear.
