Thanks for the input everyone. Although I could get a nice chia pet going on the back wall--I seem to have a knack for that :-[, I will wait and cross my fingers that someday I can find one that has less discriminating tastes.
Has anyone here kept one for a length of time that could help me understand what these eat and how to take care of them? Thanks.
I've been eyeing the occasional RG at the LFS and reading quite a bit about them but I am getting mixed responses on whether they can be successfully kept longer...
I have a 20g nano. I mix my salt in a spare, bare bottom 10g glass tank with a power head, aeration, and heater. I usually do a 2-3 gallon change in the 20g 1X/week and then mix up another 3 gallons in 10g, and let it sit until the next change.
My question is this, since the total volume of...
Hi all. I have a 15 gallon high nano reef, w some zoo's and mushrooms (for now), and the fish are a common clown and a goby (I may add 1 more small fish at some point but that's probably it).
Looking at upgrading my pump to the Koralia, but which size? At the LFS some say the nano, others say...
They do a very good job on the corals, but honestly the dry goods are a quite the mess. Everything is in disarray, light bulbs just haphazardly lying in a corner. I was in there a couple of months ago looking for a test kit, and was told to just keep looking, so I kept looking...at another...
;D
Cannonballs
One theory, of sufficient popularity as to be an example of so-called folk etymology, is that a brass monkey is a brass tray used in naval ships during the Napoleonic Wars, for the storage of cannonballs, piled up in a pyramid. The theory goes that the tray would contract in...
Agreed on the list.
Re the t5 lights I hear ya. I see Current makes a 2x18w t5 and 6x18w t5 in the 18" and 20" size respectively. Would the 2x18 be enough firepower?
And I would love the 6x18w, but that light is ~$250---gulp, I guess assuming over time I could make that up with bulbs, but it...
Got it. Plus the HOB lets me know when to top off the tank, it makes an ahh...how should I say it...tinkling sound. :)
I like the polyester stuffing idea---very clever.
We have down pillows, wonder how goose feathers would work? j/k
Remove the biowheel?--do you mean just the wheel part or the whole filter? The filter itself seems to create a nice surface flow that I'm guessing keeps the oxygen exchange up.
If I keep the filter (I have one bag of Chemi-pure Elite in it now) what should I be putting in it if anything?
Hey thanks for all the great ideas and links. With all the choices, and without some good advice like this beforehand, I know even a small tank can get expensive and frustrating real fast. I saw a guy at the LFS buying about 8 fish at once the other week when I picked up the hermits, and for the...
I don't think they are, based on the pictures on the web I've seen of aiptasia and majanos, they look very much like this:
http://aaparker.net/fish/marine/ButtonBrown1.jpg
The biggest has a 1" long mushroom shaped stalk with a penny sized flat disk on top with maybe 30 little 1/16" fronds...
Thanks for the advice. I will begin with those corals.
Button polyps=zoanthind? If so I have the brown variety (they have a slightly green center) growing rather well now--they hitchhiked on some LR.
I have noticed that they will consume some flake food and frozen mysis if it falls on...
Hi all...my first post here.
OK my 4 year old wanted a fish, so we went to the fish store a few months ago. Having had saltwater fish back in the late 80's and early 90's I just couldn't bring myself to buy a goldfish. So I go back home, scramble up into the attic, to see what I kept after...
