75g Mixed Madness

Alright well i just moved my tank saturday... everything went exceptionally smooth, and all inhabitants survived and are looking good. Now that im back on here i guess i should start one of these up. Just to warn everyone, i dont really like typing extremely much as i type reports for school all day, so this will be largly picture based. Feel free to ask any questions, give any suggestions, or whatever you like.

Corals wise its a mess haha. Like i said. Mixed Madness.
Currently i have somewhere near 20 bubble tips... All sorts of assorted kinds. Lemon Blast, Blood red roses, rainbow, and regular old greens.
I have a couple different types of sps, Millies, Birdsnests, montis, and some others. Most of them recent additions.
I am starting to expand my zoa/paly collecion as well, Now including Armageddons, darth mauls (thanks ray), tubbs blues, magicians, True RPE's, Jokers (thanks ray again), sunflowers, and a bunch of others.
I also have a whole load of ricordea, which i am weeding out now because i am going a different route with the tank, cutting down on the randomness of it all.

Now for the fun part. currently i have no good pictures of the tank after the move. I will throw some up but the will be cell phone pictures so excuse the blurryness or crappyness in general haha.

here are some pre-move shots.

So the nems are thinned out. 2 of the reds and like 4 of the greens. still have like 15 or so though.

Everything is growing like crazy and im pretty happy but today i tested DKH and it was at 6.3 -.- So im raising it .50 each day till its where i want it.

aside from that, using my hanna phos checker, i have .01 phos level. So everythings right on track.

pictures to follow soon!

Hopefully i will get the chance to take some pics tomorrow night, Girlfriend was in a car accident today so i spent the majority of my day off in the hospital :/ but everything is fine now so id trade a whole day of sitting there for some good news anytime lol.

moved some rocks around largely due to some nems rearranging themselves haha.

Aside from that im noticing some great growth lately (about 1/2" on most branches) in about 2-3 weeks.

Alk has balanced out now, at 8.3. not sure if i want it higher or if this is good, anyone have an opinion on the benefits or disadvantages of different ALK levels?

Thanks for the comments!

The accepted levels is between 7-12, I think the sweet spot is 8-9 (and I know others who agree). The benefit of having alk a bit higher is is keep your PH steadier.

Thanks for the quick response!

I have been having problems with my softies not opening up fully, especially the Rics, Could this be why? (low alk) or is there something else i should be looking at. because ithought it was light, and i adjusted multiple times for weeks at a time, with no success. None of my rics have grown or split, in fact most have shrunk in my tank!

everything els eis growing like weeds though, especially SPS.

Alk can affect all corals including softies. With mushrooms it seems the ones you don't want to grow multiply at an incedible rate while those you actually want to reproduce never do. I am not a ric expert so i really have no help there.

Yeah I got you, I've never had an explosive ammount of growth with the "problem" corals like Xenia or mushies or yellow polyps... but my sps have always grown very well. I dunno. Guess that's a good problem to have haha

Biiiig update.... As many have read, i switched over to DiY LED lighting.
Consisting of
24x Cree XM-L cool white .
28x Cree XP-E Royal Blue .
6x Cree XP-E Blue .
2x Bridgelux Green .
2x Bridgelux Turquoise.

I am very satisfied with the light after tweaking some levels out over the last day or so. I am running only 1 set of 12 XML cool whites, as both are just WAY too powerful, even at the lowest intensity... Color and response has been great so far.

Anyway, heres what you all came for. Some pictures! Palys for now. then the rest
