I use this for my tank and works great for emergencies, but like saltkreep said, do not run anything expensive on this, just run the bare minimum, the most important thing is gas exchange and temp, run a wavemaker, heater, or an air pump. corals and fish will be fine outwith lights for a few days

does anyone use an APC tower or something of that sort?

I tried not to go too cheap on mine. Picked up a Wen that can easily tuck away and run both tanks, the fridge, and an AC if necessary.
Its listed for $450 atm but it goes on sale often, maybe check it on Black Friday.
Think I got it for something like $325.

You get what you pay for at HF and I'd be scared to trust my electronics to one of em.
totally agree, my post was meant for those who need to do something on the cheap. i picked up a decent generator at homedepot for a few hundred but i still wouldnt plug my computer into it

Isn’t the “dirty power” problem that fries the expensive gear solved with a surge protector? Meaning all equipment plugged into the surge protector that us then plugged into the generator.

No that would not solve it. If has to do with a poor sine wave which cannot be fixed by a surge projector, they only help w surges. You would need a power conditioner which costs a lot

You get what you pay for,, all money you’ve invested in your tank and your gonna trust a 99 dollar generator. Your smarter than that Mickey
