A & B supplement

Sup Guys. I just got back into the hobby (Nov 5th) and I'm having good Success (no more algae! Green/hair that is just Coraline ;D).

I purchased my rock from Dr. Mac at Pacific East Aquaculture, he recommended a two part supplement (Calixmax), because if it's pure raw ingredients and I went for it (good stuff). He mentioned that it will maintain the balance of the cal, mg, and Ak, in the tank and didn't recommend using anything else in conjunction with it (iodine, strontium, etc.) I would just need to add the Cal, Mg, or adjust the Alkalinity and or pH as necessary.

Well I ran out. What opinions do you have on two part supplements and their usage? I was going to get some more this week.
Other people said "No way you definitely need to add Iodine and Strontium too", so what the hell, I picked some up to see what happens...

Here's what I'm working with.

PH-8.4
AK 9.8 dkh
Cal 450
Mg 1400
Nitrates 0
Phosphates 0

I feel good. ;D 8)

I've never used 2-parts myself, but I have used good old kalkwasser, strontium/molybdenum and a multi supplement additive.

IMO iodine makes softies happy, but in reserved amounts. Water changes should be enough to replace any lost minerals in your water, and 2 part supplements will benefit you more if you have organisms that need them on a regular basis. It doesn't make any sense adding a boat load of Calcium if you have no Calcium demanding corals, likewise adding supplements that target calcifying organisms as well.

What are you keeping or plan on keeping?

I recently bought the Litermeter III and the 2 part solution . Honestly I can really say that its one of the best equipment that I bought in this hobby. I had an RTN event for the past week due to my Calcium reactor then got my Litermeter hooked up last thursday and 3 days I keep checking my parameters and 3 times it gives me the same reading..

When CR broke down my parameters:
Ca - 520
ALk - 7
PH day 8.0 night 7.8
MG 1100

Now with Randy's 2 part Im back to normal and dont have to worry about tweaking my Reactor

Ca 430
Alk 9.5
PH day 8.3-8.4 Night 8.0-8.1
Mg 1300

I am so glad about dosing the 2 part. I heard lot of good things about it and way better than a reactor ( feel free to argue :) ).. I will be buying another dosing pump or maybe dose kalk on my top off. In short I am really happy that my RTN event is done :)

Thank
Steve

I just started using the two part. No complaits so far except my wife dropped the gallon of magnesium mix that spilled all over our carpet

Thanks Guys.

I started with some LPS, then started adding softies, now I'm going SPS crazy (love the colors). I just can't wait to see results growth wise (SPS). I still have plenty of space to fill.

Wile I'm at it, what do you think about light and it's color effects on SPS? I have a 90 Gal with an current USA outer orbit fixture which consists of 2-150w 10K HQI, and 2-130w PC Dual Actinic (560W total).

I like and have used for awhile Kent Part A&B.. Works just fine I guess, especially when you are only adding .02ml per day or 1ml per week to a 12 gallon nano.. lol Buy a syringe.. heh..

i use to used the nano reef stuff, is really good if you have a small tank with not much demand in cal, mag, and dkh, but if your tank is 40g or more i think you will need something more stronger than that, you can see randy 2 part add, or buy calcium and dkh from kent, just my opinion

I use dow flake, baking soda. I've seen some crazy european setups that have only use this. I have the process automated so its painless
