algae on zoas

I'm not sure what type of algae it is but there is a brown algae that is growing on some of my z/p. This has happened before and it makes them close to the point where they don't open and die. I have always tried to blow the algae off with the tunzes or even just trying to gently scrape it off with my finger but I usually have not luck. Has anyone ever experienced this before? What should I do to get the algae off the z/p?

Thanks for your help,
Andrew

Peroxide DIP ASAP. Brown algae acts FAST... i've seen colonies wiped out in a few days and polyps never open! Perodide dip worked WONDERS for me. I forget the ratio but... google is a friend.

Had the same issue with 10 new 10 polyp colonies two weeks ago. Brown algae wiped a coupe out and was desperate. Tried straight Iodine and revive dips with no results. THEN did a 50/50 peroxide solution AND at the end of 2 - 3 minutes soak, actually used q-tips to try and manually wipe away the algae coating. I think I was able to salvage a bunch of them with this method. Lost some polyps on each, but looking good for the most part. I may do a re-dip for the larger colony I have as 20 polyps or so still seem to be restricted with an algae coating.

Agreed. Pull off what you can then 50% Hydrogen peroxide / 50% RODI dip. Leave in there for 5 minutes. Wipe if needed. Drop back in tank.
