Currently we have a new (2008) Oil fired Boiler with hydronic baseboard heat and a small woodstove. the woodstove is smaller than i would like and i have a standard Brick/mortar chimney that has a good liner (inspected last year) along with a double wall 6in chimney to one side.
My dilemma is that i know where i can get corn for cheap and wood for free. the heaters are in the basement but right in front of the stairs which brings heat right upstairs. The corn stove i believe is a 4in flue pipe but most things i read says i can't use my current lined (clay/terracota) chimney. The Corn stove i will get a $542 tax Credit for this year but the wood stoves do not qualify for the 30% credit,i can easily sell my current stove for 350+.
we are going to use our tractor supply co CC to buy this so choices are limited to them, here are my two choices
multi-fuel corn/pellet stove

and the wood furnace

any help is greatly appreciated i'm almost at a standstill on what to do
