Another Trigger Jumps

I can't believe that I had another trigger jump out of my tank! I just got a very nice pink tail trigger from Ocean Gallery II in North Plainfield. He was eating great, and was even out roaming around the tank checking it out. When I got home from work today, I was looking for the trigger, and when I couldn't find him, I thought to myself, not another jumper. I whipped out my flashlight and there behind the tank in just about the same spot I found my other trigger was the pink tail. Needless to say, that is going to be the last trigger I buy for a while. Are things really that bad in my tank that they want out or what?

I picked up a bunch of fish this weekend, including another 6 green chromis, an 8-Line wrasse, a cleaner wrasse and my late pink tail trigger. I bankrolled this fish bonanza by trading in some corals I was no longer thrilled with (pocillapora, some digi and hydnophora).

The cleaner wrasse went right to work on all of my other fish, who were a little spooked at first, but I guess they understand that he is doing them a service, so they let him pick around on them.

The cleaner wrasse even tried to clean my arm as I was moving some stuff around. That tiny mouth is really sharp!

It really sucks having a fish take the big jump, but not having laid out the 50.00 for him does take the sting out of it a bit.

Oh well, time to recover the body.

Sorry about your pink tail Herb. I guess it's time to get the tank covered somehow.

I also had a trigger jump.

I've read that they are proned to jumping.... Mine was a Sargassum.

He actually jumped twice but the first time I was near the tank... the second time I wasn't so lucky.

@#$%!! and we were just talking about your situation with being able to keep triggers at a recent meeting. Sorry to hear that. What a crappy feeling.

Fyi...on a previous tank, I had placed a plastic coated screen over the uncovered section of my tank, which solved the riddle for me. I forget where I found it, but it might have been in the garden section of HD

You can buy the componants for an aluminum windowscreen frame at HD really cheap. You can use fruit tree bird netting in place of the black window screen material. It's feather-light, UV resistant, and will save the lives of many would-be carpet-surfers.

The bird netting has a pretty big mesh (about 1/2 inch). So you have to use two layers, alternating the mesh. You can feed right through the stuff easily. I also have a tank with eggcrate over it, but it does cut down on the area your lights cover. That tank will be broken down and moved late this fall, so I'm not going to bother with that one.

The screening's between $15-$20 a roll, and will cover half of New Jersey. If you want to give it a try, send me your address and I'll send you what you should need.
