I had great success removing nems without hurting them as follows. Get yourself a length of pvc that will fit over the nem. 1 1/2 inches or 2 inch should do and about a 12“ long. Also get yourself a 1lb block of duct seal at Home Depot. Then tear off big chunk of duct seal and roll it into a thick rope and put it around one end of the pipe. Lower that pipe carefully over the Nem and gently press the duct seal about the rock. Then you wait. The nem will crawl to the top by itself after a bit of time. Usually within a day. Then you just need to carefully cap both ends and take the pipe out. I just used my gloved hands. Be careful as it can just slide right out the bottom. Then you have to find it and try to get a net on it which is not optimal. Had it happen. Grrr. I use duct seal alot in my tank with no problems to kill aptasia that I can‘t get aptasia x on and to kill back encrusting Corals getting near more prized stuff.

Does the duct seal stay on the rock?

I can't but if there's a lady in the house my wife gets them with her finger nails. Or a friend uses PVC tube and epoxy puts the tube over them and they will walk up the tube towards the light. Then you just take the PVC out
Ye i saw YouTube videos where they did the pvc trick. But i have like 15 nems. Hahaha

That will take a while. But it’s the easiest way in my opinion. I only had 3 or 4. But because I got them out whole I got credit from my lfs.

i've had success peeling them off stuff by the foot. most advice says not to do that because they are delicate and you can tear and kill them. but in my experience, the base/foot where it attaches to the rock is pretty callous and tough.

i've also tried freezing rodi water into cubes and applying that to them and lifting rocks out and holding them over the tank with the nem upside down. maybe the ice helps them contract and makes peeling them easier, but if you are gentle and careful, its possible to get under them and pull them off.

Del,

Take a non-serrated butter knife and put it in the freezer. Start prying off the foot at one end and it will release because it doesn't like the cold. You're welcome.
Step 1. Buy a non serrated butter knife. Hahahaha
