Apex issues

Well with the torrential storms that passed through this evening we had lost power and cable in which our Internet is supplied from. Power came back on but not the Internet. Since the apex is controlled via iPad it won't power up and only a few outlets are working on the two eb8's. what is strange is that I guess I just defaults to the on position for some of the outlets one of which being the dosing pump, fortunately I caught it and unplugged it. Comcast will be out tomorrow afternoon to troubleshoot. So for now the apex remains offline along with most other functions on the tank ugh...

I hope it all works out for you, but this is why I will never own a controller. Introducing a single point out failure is not something I would choose to do.

This is actually the first issue I've had with it in the 6 months of owning it. Kinda seems stupid that the controller won't power up or anything without Internet. Unplugged essential components and plugged into a power strip until the issue gets resolved tomorrow. Any other apex owners go through this experience?

Something else sounds off as you don't need internet access to be able to access the Apex controller local website. Sounds like the unit may have locked up (or worse case fried due to a quick power surge from the black out). I would pull the main power cord for all the EB8's for 2-3 minutes. Plug them back in and the system should reboot. After it reboots open a web browser and go to the local web page (not the fusion website) for the Apex and make all your changes there (if you don't have a display). After everything is all good definitely go threw all of your outlets and set them to fail OFF.

Ugh.. I'm not letting myself think a surge fried anything yet. Status lights are blinking on the eb8's the wireless box is lifeless as I guess that's powered through the cat5 cable I guess as their is no other power that goes to it other that the aquabus cables. Either way I'm not going to jump to conclusions in thinking a little glitch fried 3 ai vegas ,2 mp40s and all my apex components yikes only about $4500, but nothing else in the house is giving me any troubles, now I wonder if I'm able to make a claim through the utility instead of my homeowners. Ill have to see what tomorrow brings once the Internet is resolved.

Ok do you have a laptop? If so disconnect the network cable going to the wireless bridge and connect it to the network port on the laptop. Then open up the local web page for your apex. You can make all the changes there.

Apex does not require the internet to function. If your iPAD is on Cell signal and not your wifi then it sounds like your home network is down, which I think you mention because your waiting on Comcast to come out. The Apex programming for outlets you want 'controlled' should be set to auto, otherwise they are set to on or off. There is also a way to have the system sense that power was lost and what to do in that situation. For example, when power is lost half my gear shuts down, 1 pump, 1 vortech, no lights. This way my battery will last longer. When power comes back my outlets that were off are set to stay off for 5 minutes. This way the protein skimmer doesn't go on-off-on-off as the power flashes.

You should be able to access the system using the display module. If the display module is not lit up then disconnect it and plug it back in.

After system is back up, check this setup for each of the outlet

Fallback OFF

This tells the EB8 what to do if it has lost contact with the controller and it's very important you set this to OFF for dosers.

After surveying the damage outside from last nights storm, a tree was hit by lightning about 20 feet from the underground utility for Comcast so I'm hoping something was fried out there. I will find out this afternoon when they show. Crossing my fingers on this one

Couple of things.
You can control the entire apex unit from the controller. So there is no need for internet.

On all your programming, the Fallback should be set to what u want the apex outlet to do upon start up. If you put in the following on one line : fallback ON - the outlet will default to the on position when power is restored. Fallback OFF, the power will be off.

Only time I had a similar situation was with a bad flash of firmware while updating. Are they just blinking yellow on the controller and eb8?

Well finally got the Internet fixed what fiasco. Nothing is powering up on the apex controller the network box I guess it's called isn't flashing so I think a few things are going to have to be shipped out to apex. Now does anyone have any experience with getting products reconditioned?
