apple computer made me really mad

so i have had my macbook pro since december 31st, 2008.

i finally had my very first problem with it since i owned it.

the hinge on my laptop broke, and it was causing my screen to separate from the clamshell top. i am covered, i have the applecare extended, besides, i am still within the first year of owning it, so i should be fine.

i call applecare, i explain it to them, and they say no problem, bring it to an applestore and they will fix it.

i make an appointment on the phone for the next day.

i bring my laptop in and show it to guy at apple and he says, "ok no problem, the hinge broke. it will be cheaper for you to get it fixed here vs if you send it in to apple depot"

i immediately said, what do you mean cheaper, the computer is still in warranty. he says its accidental damage, and you will be responsible for paying for it.

i flipped my lid. i said to the guy, you find a dent, ding, anything on this laptop to indicate i broke the hinge, then fine, otherwise you cant say i broke this. sometimes things just break.

it looks over the computer very carefully, probably taking 5 minutes to check every edge, corner etc. nothing found. my laptop is in perfect shape. i am not spending 2500+ dollars on a laptop and not take care of it.

after about 40 minutes of me still arguing with the guy, telling him, i take perfect care of it, that i am not some punk kid who throws my sh** around, etc. nothing, he wont budge. finally the guy working next to him finishes with his customer, and asks the guy working with me what is going on. he explains it to him, and the guy takes a close look at my laptop like the first guy did. he says, there is nothing you could have done to break the hinge. the laptop is in perfect shape. even if you pushed on the screen to hard, it would have been the other hinge that would have broken. he tells the guy working with me to put it in as warranty, there was no reason for him to think otherwise

he then explained to me that so many people come in with similar problems saying they didnt drop it or what not but they have dents, dings all over the place.

i said to the guy, thats fine, but i am an honest person, if i dropped it and it broke, i wouldnt have tried to play it off, besides, you can clearly see that it is in perfect shape.

the guy i was originally working with eventually apologized for giving me a hard time, and told me he would work on it right away and it would be ready the next day, which happened. i had it the next morning

i am glad he fixed it so quickly, but crap, why do they have to try to push the blame on me when clearly the computer was in perfect shape. he even wrote on the invoice that the "laptop shows absolutely no sign of abuse" it was so obvious to everyone, why give me a problem

surprisingly apple emailed me with a survey, which i filled out with flying 0's (for bad service), explaining what happened, and checking the allow apple to call me to discuss option.

i am even considering calling the customer service department myself because i am so mad by treating me like some kind of a jerk

They probably get tons of pressure from management to reject warranty claims. Bottom line is they make money by charging you and claiming it's not covered in the warranty. I wonder if merv could chime in as I know he works at a store down in southern jersey.

One of the prime reasons why I do not ever bother with signing the extended warranty bs on equipment or the usual PSEG warranty on appliances.

I also decline all the warranty's. If I bought them all.... 5- kitchen appliances, washer, dryer, 2- TV's, wii, 3- Ipod's, cpu, dvd player, 3- cell phones, all my work tools, etc etc etc... It would of cost me thousands, literally. I don't think it pays. The major stuff is covered by the manufacturer for a year on most stuff anyway. Then the worst part is that you buy the extended coverage and they tell you the part thats broke isn't covered! Total Joke!
