Baffles for sump

there probably a thread on here somewhere asking this question............

with a 20 gal. glass tank, to be used as a sump, do you use glass or acrylic for the baffles?
will the silicone hold one better then the other?

Doesn't matter that much. I've always used acrylic and silicone on glass. The preassure is pretty much even on both sides of the baffle.

i used 1/4" glass on my currrent sump, the previous one i used 1/4" plexi
the class baffels look neater and bond a little better because the silicon only traps the baffel on the acrylic wher on the glass the silicone sticks to the glass better

But who else is looking under there, use whatever is more available

Silocone sticks better to glass than to plastic (acrylic, polywhatever). But saying that, the acrylic silcone work I;ve done have not been a problem. One word of caution, cut the acrylic a little undersized....it swells.

Cost wise, glass is cleaper. If you go with plastic, 1/8 inch is a bit too thin...it bows...so 1/4 would be better.

Isn't it the same with acrylic silicone? It sticks to plastics better than glass. Just like glass silicone it sticks better to glass than plastic.

I have heard that Plexiglas does actually swell.

i have always used glass with glass and acrylic with acrylic. So I can't put my opinion out there for using acrylic on glass. But I did find glass panes sold at Home Depot that fit right in a 20g tank!

Just make sure the silicone dosen't have any mold inhibitors in it. You want normal GE silicone I for window and door clear
