Boil-Water Advisory In Effect for 18 N.J. Towns
NEW JERSEY (AP) -- Residents of 18 communities in central New Jersey are being advised to boil water after a 60-inch water main broke in Franklin Township.
Communities in Somerset, Middlesex and Union counties are affected, as well as the campus of Rutgers University.
New Jersey American Water Co. says it is working to isolate the break, which occurred along Weston Canal Road at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Schools in several nearby communities were forced to close early when they were left without water.
The cause of the break was not immediately determined.
Water company officials emphasized that the boil water advisory is a precautionary measure and that no evidence of contamination has been found in the system.
