Brown live sand ?

Ok guys and girls,

I have had red slime problems in the past. I am currently experiencing some problems with my live sand. The sand seems to have a brown tint to it..
My nitrates are very low. since I have a denitrator and a skimmer running all the time. Any ideas what it is????????

Does it seem to be like lines of brown? I had this too until I put a sand sifting star and about 100 nassarius (sp?) snails into my tank, every time I feed the tank the sand starts to, literally, move when all the snails come out. The sand sifter I find all over my tank, sometimes even on the glass.

Yeah, I got the same. A ton of snails and crabs and sifter starfish. I never had this problem when I had a yellow sleeper that sifted the sand. Thos buggers are hard to find again....
