Emerald crabs might be an option, as is the rabbit fish. I'm SUPER hesitant to use any sort of reef flux or vibrant. We stress stability and then smack our tanks around with all sorts of weird antibiotics. I would just pluck it offLooking more at the tank I see much more bubble algae than I realized. I have Vibrant but reluctant to use it from all the bad things I have heard.
Opinions welcome on Vibrant, Reef Flux, etc.
Will be moving the rabbit fish this weekend and try to manually remove what I can access.
To small to pluck or siphon off; I tried a little before.Emerald crabs might be an option, as is the rabbit fish. I'm SUPER hesitant to use any sort of reef flux or vibrant. We stress stability and then smack our tanks around with all sorts of weird antibiotics. I would just pluck it off
Vibrant is an algaecide and will kill off other algaes including any macro you have, best as a last resort- but I've been there a couple of times and the 'resort' recoversTo small to pluck or siphon off; I tried a little before.
I have read Vibrant is an algaecide So nervous to try. I don't like Emerald crabs.
Let me just say I fought GHA for about 7 months and I tried everything with no luck. I too was hesitant to try Vibrant. Let me just say I did the minimum dose for 4 weeks and I no longer have ANY hair algae. My fern caulerpa also survived in my sump. As much as I am against using chemicals to combat an algae problem I was at my wits end since I tried most every other method with no luck. I would def. not hesitate to use vibrant again if I had GHA as it did the trick. Not to mention it didn’t harm anything else in my tank.Looking more at the tank I see much more bubble algae than I realized. Didn’t know mg was a factor.Decided to try multiple steps approach to combat this.
1) Add Rabbit fish
2) Use Vibrant - carefully
3) Peroxide dose - may have spot spray
4) Increase Mag to 1600ppm
Not sure if Mag is a factor. From experience whenever my Mag was 1600+ never had any major algae issues. My mag is very low IMO 1000 and managed to move it up to 1200 but still need to go more.Didn’t know mg was a factor.
I hear if doing emerald crabs try using females they are less likely to nip at corals. Don’t know how true this isI have 5 or 6 emeralds in my display to control bubble and hair algae, works well with the rest of the clean up crew.
How can you tell the difference between M and F? The claws?I hear if doing emerald crabs try using females they are less likely to nip at corals. Don’t know how true this is
