Bugs on my Zoos

Now as of last night I seen some clear thing with a red spot or stripe on it on top and blow my zoos. I think they are eating my Zoos. Because where I seen them on my zoos that spot of my zoos now looks hurt. I would like to take a Photo but I only see them when the light are out and when I shine a flashlight at them. Plus they Move very Fast. I have notice that my Six line wrasse is very fat.
All so I wounder if they are the reason my leather coral is doing poorly?
SO ANY ONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME !!!!!!!

If it's not a pod like Matt just showed (what they sound like to me) in his links then take a look at this thread and rule out Nudibranchs by looking at the pictures.

Interesting thread BTW on killing Zoanthid Eating Nudibranchs with Salifert’s Flatworm Exit product.

There should be some pics of flatworms here on the site you can look at to help identify them if they are flatworms but it doesn't sound like it to me.

Here's a general purpose Dip/Bath treatment I use on Zoanthids that works for many things. Best used before things go in the tank but you can pull the colony from the tank, do the dip and put them back.

1. Using a 5 gallon white bucket, add 3 gallons of RO water.
2. Now add 2 drops of Lugol's Iodine per gallon of RO water.
3. Add 2 drops of Flatworm Exit made my Salifert per gallon of RO water.
4. Adjust PH and temp to match your tank
(white bucket allows you to easily see what drops off)

Place the colony/frag in the white bucket right side up. Leaving it there for about 5 minutes. Then grab the rock and invert it and place it in the water 3 inches below the water surface. Now twist the rock as fast as you can in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion for at least a minute. While the rock was sitting still in the RO water, it was killing off all bristle worms, nudibranchs, flatworms and parasites.

It will not kill off any nudibranch eggs so you will have to inspect the rock for what looks like a tiny white 1/8 of and inch curly white piece of thread. They won't detach from the rock as the sack is very sticky. Inside this egg sack is up to 40 or so eggs just waiting to hatch. If you see one, just remove it with tweezers before placing the rock back into your reef. BTW, once you have finished twisting the rock in the water for a full minute, pull it out the water and dunk it back into the water a few times, splashing and swooshing is good, it dislodges anything that didn't fall off in the twisting motion.

Once you place the colony back into your reef, make sure they receive some current as they will be a little stressed and might slim a little, but that's OK, they will be fine. Your zoos will open in minutes. Always, ....always run your actinics only for the rest of that day. Actinics will encourage them to open. Try not to introduce any food into the system as well until the following day. On the following day, go back to your normal photoperiod. As I said, the zoos will be a little stressed and your 10 or 12k lighting will only try to encourage them to fully expand when they really don't want to right now because of what they have just experienced. I believe the bright lighting after a dip has and will discourage them from opening as soon. So this is probably best done in the evening when lights will be going out soon anyway.

HELP!!! I am all most Positive it is isopod. They are starting to put a hurting on my Zoos.
What should I do!!!!!

What fish do you have in the tank?

With the right type of predator they would go down in number pretty quickly.

I have 5 yellow Tangs, Powder Blue Tang, Hippo Tang, Tommi Tang, Vlamingi Tang, Flam angle, and a six line Wrasse

OMG - are you all saying that those isopods are harmful to zoos?????? :eek:

I'm asking because I just saw "1" of those in my tank the other morning, but assumed that either my Sixline Wrasse or Mandarin will make a meal of it sooner or later.

no, really i agree with carlo. i think if you add some fish such as a sixline, or a mandarin, maybe even a seahorse might as well(i have 2 in my 220 reef) it should help limit them.

Just because you see pods around the problem area, it doesn't have to mean that they are the culprit (killers). It could also mean that they are simply scavengers (cleaners) of the tissue thet is already decaying for some other reason (some other predator, bacterial or viral infection, bad water conditions, chemical warfare from other corals). So, if you still want to get rid of them, mandarins, scootter and similar blennies as well as some gobies are good for controling pods.

i wouldn't be suprised if it was not the yellow tang....i have watched those fish make a meal of zoos at my job...so even though they are reef safe dont rule them out...they can do some damage too in only a couple of days

I would be very surprised if it was The Yellow Tangs because I have had two for years and never had any problems. But I did just get three new ones and it was not long after I got them when I had the problem with my Zoos. Time to keep a look out at the new Yellow Tangs
