center brace

I was wondering if I could take out the center brace on my 120 do you think the tank would bow or fall apart? has anyone else thought of doing this? it shades my halides. is there a wire brace I could put in place of the wide plastic brace?

Without that brace, your tank will certainly bow and eventually blow apart.

You can replace it with a clear acrylic brace. But the tank must be empty before you ry to do anything with that brace.

Or you can keep it filled and use 2 pipe clamps while working .

I am also thinking to replace the center brace for a 90 gallons. Acrylic needs to be clean once for a while. A wired one will be the best. Home Depot sells the wire with plastic wrap in the chain section. What is the best way to fasten it? I have some 1/4" Nylon screws, but I don't think they are strong enough. Does anyone do it with wire?

Is your tank glass or acrylic? Plastic center brace has a lightly different role on those two types of tanks, but is crytical in each case, and removng it in eaither case would be a bad decission IMHO. Wouldn't it be better if you moved your light? How many MH lights do you have and how many sections (center braces) the top of your tank has?

My question would be, why do you want to remove the center brace in the first place? Yes, it does do some shading on the MHs, but usually you can work around this one way or another. It's sure a lot less risky than messing with a critical structure of the tank.

You also might be able to add an addition 150w hqi, and reposition the others so that there are two of these over each half of the tank.
