Cheap computer?

OK, evidently the storm 2 weeks ago fried the motherboard on my in-laws computer. Of course now the son-in-law is expected to do magic and buy a cheap replacement. The old computer was a 6 year old E-Machine. Honestly I am thinking to just get another E-machine. They only need the computer, so if they see a new monitor I'm dead....LOL

Do you know of any good deals right now or the price search engines? I am drawing a blank right now.

I need a computer that will be only used to read the news, check e-mail, and play poker for $300 or less...LOL
any suggestions greatly appreciated

I have one with a flat screen monitor if you are interested.

I will format and reload the OS for you if you want.

I dont know if a laptop will work for you? Walmart has a toshiba for 279 or 319? Its unbeatable for the price. I know 4 people that have it works great

Have you looked at a netbook?
My firm uses them for travel, they seem to work pretty ok. We got them at Sam's Club for about $300, and then loaded them with Office and nothing else.

Thanks for the suggestion Nikki, I actually have one for myself and love it, but it would not be too good for a fat fingered senior whose eyesight is starting to go  I guess I shouldn't have said that, it is sad to think about the problems we encounter when we get old. I was actually thinking about chipping in to get a big flatscreen for him to see, do they make jumbo keyboards as well?

I told you to watch woot. They had a few computers on in the last few days when they had a woot-off in the sub $300 range as well. Keep watching as one pops up every few days for sale.
