Circulation pumps

I ordered a new model gyre pump made for smaller tanks - Icecap 2k - for my BC 32. It was supposed to be released late November and then changed to mid-December. Now the makers - CoralVue - don't know when its being released ( must be having production problems). Anyway I'm thinking of cancelling the order and going with the Vortech mp10QD, but that is a little pricey and it can't be rotated like other pumps. There is one that is getting some notice the 'Waveline Wavepuck 2', although there are only a few reviews on it - 50% hate it & the other 50% love it. Would appreciate any comments on the mp10QD and especially the Wavepuck 2 ( it's about $100 less than the former.) Thanks

I have 2 mp 10s in my 38 gallon and the are great they been running for over 2 years without any problems. Very low profile in the tank and you don't need to adjust the directions because flow pattern is very wide. If you control them through a reef link or Apex you can change a flow pattern throughout the day they're a little pricey but worth it.

First - HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!
I've seen a lot of people who own any of the gyre pumps talk about them needing regular frequent cleaning in order to perform well. You know it tells you something when Maxspect & IceCap send you extra bushings with the pumps because they wear out quickly. I have 2 Jabeo 8's circ. pumps in my 120g planted tank and haven't cleaned them for over 2 years and their going strong. Only problem with those types of power pumps is their flow is very concentrated.

Ive seen some bad things with those wave pucks...like them still operating when off its base. They look cool though
Yes they are "cool" and over $100 cheaper than an mp10qd, but the controller has some limitations - although it would be easy to add it to the programming - there is no "night" mode except that it shuts off the pump completely instead of allowing you to 'reduce' the flow like the Ecotech's.

I also have a tunze nano stream 6020 in my 50 gallon cube small footprint nice wide flow not as controllable as a vortech and was pretty loud but seems to quieting down after about a month of use. Overall a decent pump for a $140
