Cleaning used sand

Is there a process to clean used sand? Sand type is Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand and it was used in an SPS tank for two years.

does it smell bad? If it does I would run fresh water through it in a bucket or trash can let the water run out the top. Since you are starting out fresh with the 180 it will re seed while you cycle the tank. Just make sure you have gloves on you don't want to get hit with a bristle worm.
