Clown Hosting Anenome?

So...... I just got my first anenome today so I went out and got two clowns for it. These clowns are tank raised and now I am reading that tank raised clowns may not even know what an anenome is! Does anyone have any advice as to how to "teach" the clowns they can host it or should I just try and get different clowns?

Tape a pic. of clowns in an anenome to the glass. It worked for several people.

I have had a carpet anemone which hosted two tank raised clowns. It took about two weeks in the beginning but eventually the clowns "found" the anemone.

It can also depend on the type of clowns and the type of anemone...some aren't compatible.

That is good news. I got them to go right next to it but they did not want to stay there. They seem to stay at the top of the tank right now.

I have 2 true percs and a BTA. It took a little while for them to find it, but now they rarely ever leave, except for food.
:)

Clownfish used the anemone for shelter from larger fish.

Tank raised clowns when they are fry huddle together to simulate the anemone. They try to make themselves look larger and confusing. Chances are if your clowns are young they will take to it soon. It is still imprinting in their mind to create the chems that coat its body from the stings....

The tank raised clown rule in regards to them using anemones is being disproven everyday by many people. I beleive it just depends on the situation.

My pair went right into my RBTA as soon as i put them in the tank. My last pair of nigripes clowns did the same. I just think its when they wanna go in they do. I had a pair of ocellaris take two months to go into a haddons carpet... It just depends on the situation

Mike is this for real? I have the same thing going on as Sam but I read that it could take minutes to months for them to get there. Sometimes not at all. So I was just waiting but I've never read this approach.

I've heard about this approach working for several people and recommended it to Tom (Mott). It worked for him fairly quickly, if I recall correctly!

I think I'll try it today then. Thanks Mike and Phyl ... thanks Sam for bringing it up.

Anyone got a good pic of two clowns hosting an RBTA? haha.

I found one on Google images.

Sam just give it time and they will find it , week or 2 when you feed them do it close to the RBTA , so they know is there , lmk what happens .

do you have an anenome in your reef tank? my sister wants me to put one in my tank but I thought they were bad for reef tanks.

I have seen many in reef tanks. The carpets will eat fish and other usually are ok once they find a spot they like. They may walk on things and hurt them until they find a spot they like though.

I have an LTA for my ocellaris. It took over a year for them to find it in a 20 gallon long! ;D

They've been together for a total of eight years now and live in my softie reef for the last 2+ years. Every 8-9 months the LTA goes walkabout and finds a new spot.

He's about due!

I have a BTA and a couple of maroons in a tank with clams and mushrooms, frogspawn, leather and some daisy pollups. Long story short, the BTA in the course of finding its home took out a few mushrooms, but all seems to be OK now for the past several months.

I had a carpet anemone that really stung my fish and is the prime suspect in the disappearance of a Mandarin.
