Controlling Star Polyp growth

I added a couple different types of Star polyps to my reef a few months back. Now, I see both of them starting to spread out a bit. Which is OK for now, but I forsee a time coming soon when I may want to limit their quest for world domination. When they expand, they seem to do so by extruding a sort of thick pinkish "foundation" material first, then shortly thereafter you have new polyps growing out of that. So, how do you cut this stuff back? Do you cut across the "foundation material" and pull off the excess?

I would just put something in its way to grow on to make frags from.

They really look cool if you get them growing on the back glass!

I frag mine as they come to the edges of the rocks I want to restrict them to by grabbing a loose edge and peeling back. Cut with a razor.

I only let mine grow on the sand bed not touching my rocks or on a rock separated from the rest of my rocks and use scissors to cut the piece smaller as needed.

i am in the market for some bright green star polyps with pink or purple base. if anyone is willing to sell some unwanted frags i would be greatful.
