Cooler fan

i would think any old clip on fan would work. Just swing by one of the big box stores like wal-mart, target, S-mart (oh wait that last one is from a movie - never mind).

if you want to go all high-end - you could look into the variable speed ice-cap fans.

I am having the same issue my tank is 79 during the day but when my metal halides come on it goes from 82-84 but no higher. It does not appear that anything is affect by this but I would still like the temp lower. Do you just clip the fan onto your some and have it blow away from the sump?

If your tank is 82-84 now with the MHs on what happens in the summer when the ambient temp is much higher? I had the same issue with my tank even with the ac on. I had to buy a chiller. I figured if the temp spikes in the tank it will cost me a lot more then the price of the chiller.

When i used to run mh's, my temp would go close to 85 so i found a 5 inch fan and set it to fit in the hood aiming down into the canopy, with the top and back of the hood open when the fan turned on it blew all the hot air around the only bad thing with this is you will notice more water will be evaporating.

i went to home depot and got a round fan for 10 bucks and i am getting about 2 to 3 degrees out of it . right now i have it sitting on top of the overflow blowing accross the top of my 180. i realize i may need a chiller but i think between my ac and the fan it may get me by till the group buy. ;) :)

the icecaps are great because they have a sensor..mine speeds up when the temp is hotter and slows down when its cooler..
