Hey everyone

does anyone have a tank with just crushed coral, no sand? If so, how are your nitrate levels, how do you maintain your parameters?

I have had crushed coral only in my 90 for over a year since I took over the tank...
My nitrate levels are fine, but I do gravel-vac every other week. There is a noticeable difference after I do the cleaning in the brightness of the tank. Overall, its not bad.

what happens if you don't do weekly cleanings? I ask because my tank is set up currently with sand and crushed coral, maybe this weekend I can put the plenums back, had to modify them a little. Was wondering about the effects. Plus, I don't think I will be able to clean every week, so I need to know what effects that can have. I know about the Nitrate issue, but you never know what works now days.

I've tried CC a couple of times because I like the look of it. Both times I ended up removing it. Nitrates became a problem. It seems no matter how much flow you have detritus still gets stuck between the pieces since it's so course.

That's my 2 cents and my advice would be not to do it for a reef tank.
