Cryptic Zone

Does anyone know of, or use, a cryptic zone? Been doing some research on it and it seems there was a lot of discussion about it about five years ago, but then around 2018 everything stopped. I did find one thread on another forum that was recently picked back up and saw that GEO sells a cryptic reactor looking thing now.
I was thinking about getting a standard reactor and somehow blacking it out to eliminate all light. Wanted to get some opinions on it.

I was reading about it too, it used to be a big deal back on the day, i will love to know if people still using this kind of fuge

it was popular a few years back, pretty much just an area of low flow and no light. you put in live rock and let the bacteria do its thing. sponges and such were desirable to help with filtration as well. didn't really catch on for many since, to do it properly you needed another tank and space.

the reactor is a good idea but again, easy DIY. reminds me of Donovan's Nitrate Destoyer, see link: Poor man nutrients control - Donovan's Nitrate Destroyer
