Curing plastic containers

I want to set up another frag tank using a shallow rubbermaid container. I think i remember someone saying that the containers have to be "cured" first. Anyone know anything about this?

hey greg, most plastic containers leach some kind of phosphate of some sort as I have read myself in another forum. Something similar happens with PVC pipes, eggcrate mesh, etc. I think all you have to do is fill it up with water and soak for a few days, maybe rinse out every two days (?) and you should be OK. If you're gonna go rubbermaid @ about $10/container, I'd probably just go with a 15 or 20 gallon tank for about $30, that way, you get to see the corals from the side too, and not just the top. Aquarium Discount Center in Marlton have super cheap tank prices.
