So, I went into a big pet store I don't usually go to.
I do drop in occasionally, and am familiar with faces.
Was greeted by a face I didn't know, young girl, obviously new(ish).
I introduced myself, made some small talk (she'd been there 2 weeks), and got down to business.
Me: I'm starting a small freshwater tank and need a few snails. Do you have nerites?
Her: What are nerites?
M: A type of snail.
H: OH! A lot of people make that mistake! You want NITRATE snails!
M: Thought I wanted Nerites.
H: No, you're talking about nitrate snails. They eat the nitrates in the tank, a lot of people mispronounce the name'
M (Looking at the tag on the tank that says 'Nerite Snails'): So these guys actually eat nitrates?
H: Yep, that's how they survive.
M: I'll take 2, and where do I find the 'Nitrate food'?
H: We're out of that right now, but they can eat any food.
She was wrong on so many levels but maintained confidence and, when confronted, effortlessly turned it back on me.
